Feldspar—frequently encountered in rock

QuartzKaolinFeldsparHigh Performance Fillers

Feldspar makes up by far the largest group of minerals in the Earth's crust. The name probably goes back to the cleavability of the material, which shows itself in the present and visible cleavage cracks. In addition, fine platelets are detached from the body of the mineral or stone when it is struck with a hammer. Feldspar minerals are significant constituents in eruptive, metamorphic and sedimentary rock, about 60% of the Earth's rocks thus consisting of feldspar.

Valued by industry

Most European deposits contain potassium feldspar, sodium feldspar and mixed feldspars. Feldspars are used above all in industrial applications on account of their aluminium oxide and alkali content.

In chemical terms the feldspars are aluminium silicates that contain sodium, potassium, iron, calcium, barium and combinations of these elements. Of our product range, the low iron potassium feldspars of the Quarzwerke Group in particular are used in many applications.
