Frechen

The silica sand deposit in Frechen is one of the most significant deposits in Europe. Although mineral silicon dioxide occurs very frequently in the Earth's crust, it seldom occurs with the purity and volume that it does in Frechen. This special mineral deposit was formed in the Ice Age by a thick deposit of sand close to the sea, the bleaching of the sand for several million years by natural acids (lignite) and the lifting of the sand by tectonic uplift.

Frechen was the first Quarzwerke site. Our company history began there in the year 1984.

You can learn more about the Frechen site and the projects offered, such as the NaSa (Nature and Sand) researchers and guided tours, on the website www.buschbellerwald.de.
