Frechen plant

The silica sand in the Frechen deposit was formed in the early Miocene, and extraction began in 1884. Today, several modern bucket-wheel excavators are in use on two strip-mining stopes.

The silica sand is processed and sorted into categories F 31, F 32, F 34, F 36 and F 38, which are available for delivery as wet or dry sand.  An adjacent milling facility produces MILLISIL  quartz flours W 3, W 6, W 8, W 10 and W 12, as well as SIKRON flours SF 300 , SF 500, SF 600 and SF 800 (quartz); SF 3000, SF 4000 and SF 6000 (cristobalite). Other industrial minerals such as wollastonite are also refined into products of the highest quality.
