Melk

Melk is situated on the right bank of the Danube. It is also known as the 'Gateway to the Wachau Valley'. Parts of the town, for example, the Melk Abbey, are part of the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site of Wachau. This town has always enjoyed a certain degree of importance as the regional capital. The Melk plant belongs to our Austrian subsidiary company, Quarzwerke Österreich GmbH. The silica sands from this region were formed in the Oligocene epoch and nowadays they are selectively mined and processed. The high proportion of accompanying minerals requires very intense, multi-stage processing.
